The ISRA Political Victory Fund (ISRA-PVF) is a political action committee affiliated with the Illinois State Rifle Association. Founded in 1903, the Illinois State Rifle Association is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. The primary purpose of the ISRA-PVF is to provide financial and logistical support to pro-gun candidates for office including Illinois Constitutional Officers, Members of the Illinois General Assembly, judgeships, and other key government officials. The ISRA-PVF does not, and cannot provide support to candidates for federal office. A major function of the ISRA-PVF is the evaluation of candidates for office and the distribution of candidate grading sheets to hunters, sportsmen, gun owners, and other interested parties. Evaluations of candidates are based on voting records, responses to gun-rights questionnaires; campaign position papers and public statements made by respective candidates. Based on these evaluations, the ISRA-PVF places each candidate in one of 3 categories:
Candidate grading sheets are issued prior to general elections. On occasion, voters in certain districts will be provided with grading information during primary and off-year elections as well. Another key function of the ISRA-PVF is to provide financial support to pro-gun candidates. Antigun candidates enjoy unlimited financial support from liberal foundations, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy do-gooders. On the other hand, pro-gun candidates have to rely on the generosity of every day, freedom loving citizens such as yourself. When appearing in his campaign TV commercials, the first words out of Larry Suffredin's mouth were a claim that the NRA had targeted him. Imagine that - a candidate for the office of county prosecutor opens his campaign commercial by declaring war on 250,000 law-abiding county residents. If anybody painted a bulls eye on Suffredin's forehead, it was Suffredin himself. So, in response, Cook County voters obliged Suffredin's political death wish and mowed him down at the ballot box. Suffredin's failure to win the Democratic primary for State's Attorney will pretty much put a damper on his future political options. Suffredin's defeat at the hands of Anita Alvarez was a good thing, but that doesn't mean that Cook County firearm owners are out of the woods. Alvarez is every bit as anti-gun as is Suffredin. Listen carefully to what she has to say about guns in this taped interview. Be advised that the interview is about 30 minutes long and Alvarez's comments come towards the end of the interview. Across the state, ISRA-PVF endorsed candidates fared pretty well on Election Day. Nonetheless, the battle ahead will be a difficult one. If we are to be victorious in November, the state's firearm owners must remain engaged in the process of electing pro-gun, pro-freedom candidates. |
